1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to Lemma and the legal pages hosted at novarynix.com, including /lemma/privacy/. It is written for users, parents, guardians, educators, and App Store reviewers who need a clear description of how the app handles information.
This English version is the authoritative Privacy Policy for Lemma worldwide.
2. Data We Collect
| Data type | Linked to identity? | Used for tracking? | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Purchase History | Linked | No | App Functionality |
| Diagnostics: Crash Data | Not linked | No | App Functionality |
| Diagnostics: Performance Data | Not linked | No | App Functionality |

3. Information Lemma May Process
Lemma does not require users to publish a profile or provide a physical address to use the core educational experience. Depending on the app version and features enabled, Lemma may process the following categories of information:
- Local learning data: formula progress, completed lessons, favorites, wrong-answer records, quiz history, saved preferences, and app settings stored on the device.
- iCloud sync data for Members: if sync is enabled, learning data such as progress, favorites, and wrong-answer records may be stored in the user's private iCloud container through Apple CloudKit.
- Diagnostics: crash reports, performance data, error logs, device and app metadata, and reliability signals used to identify and fix technical problems.
- Purchase and entitlement data: purchase receipt or entitlement signals received from Apple to unlock membership features.
- Support contact data: information a user chooses to provide when contacting support.
4. How Information Is Used
Information is used to operate Lemma, remember user preferences, provide membership features, sync learning data when enabled, diagnose crashes, monitor reliability, prevent abuse, respond to support requests, and improve the educational experience.
Lemma does not sell personal information. Lemma does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Lemma does not use personal information to track users across other apps or websites.
5. Analytics, Diagnostics, and Third-Party Services
The current release embeds only the Sentry SDK for crash diagnostics, performance data, and other diagnostic data. Sentry is used to understand technical problems and improve reliability.
Sentry is not used for advertising, is not used to track users across apps or websites, and does not collect formula content, quiz answers, or free-text user input from Lemma.
Lemma does not currently use Firebase, Google Analytics, or similar analytics services in the release binary. Firebase or similar analytics may be introduced in a future release. If that happens, this Privacy Policy will be updated before activation.
Third-party services may process information under their own terms and privacy policies. Relevant providers may include Apple for App Store purchases, iCloud, and CloudKit, and Sentry for diagnostics.
6. Subscriptions and Purchases
Lemma Membership is an auto-renewing subscription.
All purchases are processed by Apple via the App Store. Lemma does not see, store, or transmit payment card details.
The app receives a purchase receipt / entitlement signal only, as needed to confirm access to membership features.
Purchase History may be linked to the user's Apple ID. Its sole purpose is App Functionality. It is not used for tracking or for advertising.
7. iCloud Sync (Members)
When sync is enabled, learning data such as progress, favorites, and wrong-answer records is stored in the user's own private iCloud container via Apple CloudKit. The container identifier is iCloud.com.novarynix.lemma.
Lemma does not operate any server that stores user learning data.
Sync availability and quotas are governed by the user's Apple ID and Apple's iCloud service.
Users can disable sync or delete the iCloud data via iOS Settings.
8. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK users)
Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, Lemma relies on the following legal bases under Article 6:
- Performance of a contract: delivering the app and subscription.
- Legitimate interests: diagnosing crashes, improving reliability, and preventing abuse.
- Consent: where required for optional features such as future analytics or marketing. Future analytics and marketing data are currently not collected.
9. Your Privacy Rights
EEA / UK (GDPR / UK GDPR)
You may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your personal data; object to certain processing; withdraw consent; and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
California (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents may have rights to know, delete, and correct personal information; opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, which Lemma does not do; limit use of sensitive personal information, which Lemma does not collect; and receive non-discriminatory treatment for exercising privacy rights.
Other jurisdictions
Similar rights may apply under local law depending on where you live.
How to exercise
Email [email protected] with the subject "Privacy Request". Lemma will respond within 30 days or as otherwise required by law.
10. Children's Privacy
Lemma is rated 4+ but is not designated "Made for Kids".
Lemma does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or the equivalent minimum age in the user's jurisdiction, such as 16 in some EEA countries.
Parents or guardians may contact [email protected] to request deletion.
11. Retention
- Local on-device data: retained until the user deletes it, resets the app, or uninstalls the app.
- iCloud-synced data: lives in the user's iCloud account and is governed by Apple's retention; the user can delete it via iOS Settings.
- Diagnostics (Sentry): retained per the diagnostic provider's default retention window, approximately 90 days, and then deleted or anonymized.
- Purchase records: handled by Apple under Apple's App Store and Apple ID policies.
12. Security
Lemma uses reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate for an educational app, including HTTPS for public legal pages and reliance on established platform providers. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
13. International Data Transfers
Purchase signals are processed by Apple in the United States and other regions. Diagnostic data is processed by Sentry in United States / EU regions.
For transfers out of the EEA / UK, Lemma relies on appropriate safeguards offered by these providers, including Standard Contractual Clauses and adequacy decisions where applicable.
14. Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated as Lemma changes. Material updates will be reflected by changing the date above and publishing the revised policy at /lemma/privacy/.
